Mark and his literary intercalation or sandwich technique.
The fig tree that bares no fruit is cursed
- The story is interrupted by a the temple, which also bares no fruit.
Jesus returns to to fig tree and it has withered to the root.
The temple was a place of hope for not just the Jews but all nations and instead of being a place of sacrifice and forgiveness it has turned into a den of robbers.
Jesus is the embodiment of what the temple should be.
Todays Prayer
Jesus, may you uproot the places in our life that bare no fruit.
